Another PLQ MNA to bow out
We’re still only in April and PLQ members of the National Assembly are falling like dominoes out of running in this October’s election. Monday it’s David Birnbaum of D’Arcy McGee riding who’s done. He follows Marguerite-Bourgeoys’ Hélène David, who announced last week she would not run, Acadie’s Christine St‑Pierre, who announced last month she wouldn’t be back, and Anjou–Louis-Riel’s Lise Thériault, who announced last August that she was bowing out. And I’m only noting Montreal island MNAs here.

Are there many Liberal MNAs off Montreal island?

There are 27 PLQ MNAs all told. At a quick glance over this list, eight are not on Montreal island, mostly in Laval. Gaétan Barrette, representing La Pinière, has also said he won’t be running again. Not sure about the others, but the recent byelection win in Marie‑Victorin is a sign that the Liberals (as well as the PQ) are really on the downslide.
