The National Assembly has resolved to accept all the federal housing money Quebec was offered. Big of it.
It’s not clear how or where the money will be spent, although the CAQ may be looking for ways not to spend it on anglos.

An 88-year-old pedestrian was killed Thursday morning in what Radio‑Canada calls a collision, in Montreal North.
The body of a man in his 50s was found Thursday morning in a home on du Musée downtown. There were signs of violence and TVA is already calling it a murder.
Update: TVA says it was a stabbing, and adds that the man was called Artur Ketikyan and “n’était pas connu des milieux policiers, du moins pas pour des crimes violents.”
Tourism numbers were back to pre-pandemic levels this summer.
Mission accomplished
I heard the Province is considering a tax on all english speaking tourists in an effort to stop the Anglicization of our centre-ville. Proceeds from the tax will be distributed to other centres across the province in an effort to make things fair.
You could tell this just by the number of ontario-plated cars making illegal left turns on major streets and right-on-red everywhere possible. Tried it myself once (right on red) but like heroin it seems too good and probably shouldn’t do it again.
It’s ok, you can blow through reds anyhow you feel like it when you’re on a bike. You risk getting martyred but you’ll never get a ticket.
The Anglican church has donated a piece of land for the creation of a formal memorial site for the Black Rock. I’m just a little tweaked by some of the language used by Fergus Keyes here: “…the great humanitarian effort of the people who came to help them, many of whom gave up their lives. And they represented every language and every religion you can think of that was in Montreal in 1847.” That suggests that, by the time it’s created, the memorial won’t really be about the Irish at all.
We also have the problem that the lettering on the Black Rock is only in English.
CAQ-friendly solution:
Remove half the letters on all inscriptions in English, and redistribute them to French inscriptions to make up for English existing.
The city promised to create a system for its workers to lodge a complaint about racism, Dominique Ollivier saying it’s a systemic response to a systemic problem. There have been many reports of Black city workers being treated shabbily but with no safe way to report it.
Systemic? :my_pearls:
The CAQ promised a meager handout to help transit commissions across Quebec, which is being slammed by opposition parties. François Legault still thinks municipalities should be paying more of it, but this piece doesn’t get into how they’re expected to raise the funds.
