A social housing complex that’s been empty for ten years, its tenants dispersed to other locations, should reopen next summer after an expensive refit. The noovo.info story referenced several times in the CTV piece is here.

Usually the only time they link another news outlet breaking a story is when it’s a property with the same parent company, and that’s true here too. The number of times I read on CBC Montreal, “Radio-Canada has learned…”. (When it’s another outlet that breaks it, it’s usually “CBC News has learned…”.)

Half a dozen audience members at Île Soniq last weekend reported getting jabbed with a needle by someone behind them, the victims then becoming dizzy or passing out. Police are seeking other possible victims. There’s no suspect so far.

The Globe and Mail writes about the Concordia rocket launch, stressing in the headline that it failed to reach space. The Gazette took a more positive view, saying that it made history and CBC is congratulatory as well.

The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will be completely closed this weekend and there are other driving crises.

In a recent post I wondered how the city’s modular housing for the homeless was progressing and why there were no reports how people were settling in or how the surrounding neighbourhoods were adapting. Here’s why there are no stories: none of the units are ready for occupation yet.

Radio-Canada writes about the Grand parc de l’Ouest as Valérie Plante’s legacy.

As far as legacies go, that’s pretty darn good.

Hopefully, with a new PQ government on the way, we will see the expropration and removal of some of the waterside bungalows that eat up the park’s shoreline.

Densifying the burbs must involve the creation of more waterfront parks like this one, and the bungalows that are there now must be moved for ecological and quality-of-visitor-experience reasons.

                Plus ducks…

Do people formally own these bungalows or are they more or less like the ones on Île Ste‑Thérèse that were built informally years ago and simply occupied in the summer by general understanding?

And how does this dovetail with the fact that Quebec lets you control a property once you’ve been using it for ten years (see video from CBC)?

Qatzi just hates the Anglo suburbs, let’s not pretend this is about anything else.

                Ah yes.

But there’s a precedent here for houses to be grandfathered in to a park. Île de la Visitation has maybe a dozen houses that are still inhabited, inside the park bounds. You can see a couple of them here.
