    I googled the name of the man arrested recently in multiple break‑and‑entry incidents in Westmount and found that a man with the same distinctive name turns up as doing time in the UK ten years ago for the same kind of burglary.

        As of next year, owners of empty buildings will have to register them with the city, but this is intended as a safeguard against fires or other hazards, and not an attempt to recoup more living spaces. But the fines envisioned for not doing this aren’t likely to deter most negligent landlords.
