Fighter jets to fly over Friday evening
Fighter jets are expected to fly over Molson Stadium at 7:30 pm Friday to mark the Alouettes game.
Although there are usually two planes doing this exercise, this time there will be four.
I found this info on reddit, but can’t find anything official to link to. But now you’re warned.
Later, TVA posted that it would be two planes.

It just seems with Grand Prix happening next weekend and the smoke that has drifted in from the prairie wildfires, that there’d be some kind of mandate to not have unnecessary carbon emissions from fighter jets, which burn a considerable amount of fuel. The Grand Prix should be cancelled, but oh! the amount of profits that’d be lost. We are just f*cked as a species.

Meezly – need Grand Prix to stay on so that STM can run on regular schedule for me to get to/from 12 hour hospital shifts without needing lifts

Thanks for sharing that, Meezly, I couldn’t find the words.

Who foots the bill for these football fighter jet flyovers? And what kind of permits are required?

No need to worry @MtlWeb, no one’s gonna cancel Grand Prix. The entire city could be obscured by wildfire smoke and the machines of capitalism will keep on churning.

Regarding the question of who pays for these flyovers, my understanding is that there is no “bill.” Pilots are required to fly a certain number of hours per month for training and skills maintenance, so these planes would be flying anyway. It’s just a matter of when and where.
I don’t think there are specific permits either, but air traffic control needs to have advance notice so they can keep the route clear.
I’m not 100% sure of that, so if anyone has better information let’s hear it.

That’s a really good point about flight hours, Blork. I hadn’t considered that but i guess for events it’s an easy win.

I saw/heard them from a terrasse in St-Lambert, and oddly, no one complained about the noise!

Blork, I had heard of that years ago, from someone who was in the Air Force (admittedly in the 60s). People would fly and see their friends, go to a favourite restaurant, whatever: you needed your hours.
And I heard the jets pass overhead, not as loud as I remember.
