Arnold Bennett is seeking funds to keep his Housing Hotline operating as it has for decades. What this article doesn’t include is anything about how to contribute. So here’s the Gofundme page currently about halfway to the modest $5,000 that Bennett is hoping for.
Monday morning I see that the total has been adjusted to $10,000…

STM bus and metro drivers have voted to strike. Of course Quebec has just voted in a new law limiting strikes, so who knows whether a strike will even be possible.

Bill 89 is a huge loss for the working class.
I wonder to what point the pigs will stop acting as the muscle against the working class and realize they are part of the working class too. Is it safe to start declaring the Social Contract is broken?
Kate
I was thinking of Bill 89 when I read this Guardian piece on the collapse of workers’ rights worldwide. Legault is just falling into step with Trump.

Soraya Martinez Ferrada says she wants to rethink the city’s governance, including creating a “table of mayors” with unspecified powers of decision. She also wants to rebalance borough funding.
Luc Rabouin is already sparring with Martinez Ferrada on Bluesky: “C’est certainement pas en ajoutant une structure de plus qu’on va gagner en efficacité!”

Getting rid of 20-20-20 now this, I enjoy a good nihilist firebrand. Haha j/k I know she’s just another capitalist free market libertarian

The visit of King Charles to Ottawa was a gift to editorial cartoonists this week. Chapleau paired him with Mary Simon and Côté imagined a jokey gift from Quebec. Godin showed us what he thought of it all.
Justin Trudeau’s choice to wear gaudy sneakers with his suit at the Throne Speech event was also a gift, although it was in line with his father’s pirouette behind Queen Elizabeth decades ago.
The SAAQClic scandal gave us Chapleau on Geneviève Guilbault and also the best cartoon of the week from Godin.

Any cartoonist that can’t mock royalty should just retire

I really like the editorial cartoon roundups, Kate.
Kate
Thank you, jeather! We have some great editorial cartoonists in Quebec.

I don’t usually have much to say about the cartoons, but I don’t want you to stop posting them, so I thought I’d let you know.

I also appreciate the new addition
Kate
Good to know, both of you. Thanks!
Ian
Just piling on here, I like it too. I have always enjoyed the news recap aspect and having a weekly overview of niche stuff is appreciated.

Some summer pleasures – the Grand Prix, the fireworks, all the music fests – are very loud and thus damaging to our ears. Ear protection is advised in this piece.
EmilyG
I always wear earplugs at rock and pop concerts, and while watching fireworks. And even sometimes in public in everyday life, as I’m autistic and sensitive to certain sounds that aren’t always even loud sounds.

It’s the 40th Tour de l’île Sunday and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was one of the chilliest.
James
Wasn’t the chilliest or the rainiest but was the windiest.
My legs are still stiff after 137km

Passed by on Friday…saw a group of employees, hugging each other and saying their goodbyes. There were tears. I always enjoyed walking through The Bay and will miss it.
