JdeM columnists draw a line
It’s kind of a relief to find that even the Journal’s columnists draw the line somewhere: starting with a lede in which he craps predictably on the gauche, Richard Martineau actually says some rightwing individualists are being stupid to protest against masks. In turn, Denise Bombardier confesses herself amazed to hear talk of conspiracy about the pandemic from people she thought better of.

I remember hearing Bombardier saying climate change was a hoax from hippies (circa 2004)

I’m not saying all their attitudes have been absolved, but it was nice to see they don’t go down all the right-wing rabbit holes.

QAnon is a pretty deep rabbithole, to be fair. I wonder how the QC nationalists feel about the whole US flag thing? Preserving French identity didn’t work out so well for Louisiana.

If some of Denise Bombardier’s elitist intellectual friends have issues with mask obligations, what does this mean about “the social docility thing?”

I thought I saw a US flag turned upside down, with a guy holding a gun printed on it. The sort of drawing the FLQ used. It was a photo or on tv news, I couldn’t tell exactly what I saw. But that’s what came to mind, and if it was real, a weird contradiction.

You can’t assume consistency in protesters’ attitudes, Michael Black. That’s as true in weird somewhat right‑wing protests as in left‑wing ones.
