Attempted arson at Journal building
The Journal de Montréal building on Frontenac was the target of an attempted arson early Saturday, but very little damage was done. A large moribund potted plant is in two of the photos and I can’t figure out how it was involved.

The window look broken. Maybe the sturdy-looking plant container was thrown through to open the window?

Yeah, but given the type of plant and where it and the glass is, it looks like it was thrown from the inside, which would be odd for an arson attempt. I suppose maybe it could have been grabbed from a dumpster and used to smash the window but not thrown through.

nau, that’s what I thought. It’s not a plant in an outdoor style pot. In fact, it looks like a plant that might have died inside an office since the pandemic.

That type of plant definitely strikes me as an indoor plant. Searching online, it looks a lot like Sanseveria trifasciata, which is a low-maintenance plant suited for offices. You have to like the idea of an arsonist so ill-prepared they have to grab a plant from a dumpster to smash the window, but maybe it makes more sense than running away with a hammer in your pocket.
