Mastercard is to investigate Pornhub following the recent New York Times piece alleging that depictions of illegal sexual acts are posted to the site.

My apologies if you run into a paywall with the NYT story. Somehow I was able to read it first time without hitting one, and assumed it was open.

@dmdiem – whose privacy? The article is about the protection of the victims’ privacy and physical safety but your focus seems to be on the viewer’s free speech. Strange ranking.

And do you even know what someone has to do to get a video of revenge porn removed from a website? They have to actually send full nudes to the company for identification. Wasn’t bad enough so ex sends in the stuff for everyone to see… you have to humiliate yourself to total strangers to get it down.

The definition of the four horsemen has evolved over the years. I should have found a better link. Now it basically means that whenever someone calls on one of the horsemen, theres usually a hidden agenda. Probably about power or money. Like they claimed the patriot act was to fight terrorism. There was a hell of a lot more going on there than that.

So why the sudden push against pornhub now? I’m guessing its something stupid like they have a video service coming out that will compete directly with youtube. I don’t know. Im just saying that when the horsemen are called, theres usually something else going on.

I’m not sure a term added to Urban Dictionary in 2012 (where it’s been upvoted by all of 4 people) is at all helpful in understanding the internet in 2020.

The Notre-Dame tent city was ordered to be evacuated Sunday by the fire department, following a fire in one of the tents. There was a propane tank involved which didn’t explode, but which seems to have been the final straw.

Although Sunday’s is lower than Saturday’s leap over 2000 cases, the new 24-hour Covid case number (1691) is the second highest ever recorded in Quebec, and hospitalizations continue to rise.

The Lakeshore General is asking people to stay away from its emergency room because it’s way over capacity.

Principals, teachers and parents are pleading with Quebec to make adjustments for the school year to begin in September next year to take into account delays in student progress caused by the pandemic. (Same CP story here in English and French.)

A look at how the pandemic has changed homelessness in the city, although respondents differ on whether more people are now homeless or whether it’s simply that some who would previously have used conventional shelters are now more visible because they’re living in tents by the road. Same CP story in English on CTV.

Update: CBC’s piece focuses more on the city’s efforts to convince the campers to vacate and go to shelters. Isaac Olson talks to the borough mayor here, who says it’s hurting one of the poorest neighbourhoods to have this encampment in its midst. Well, yeah. If the campers had set up in Westmount or TMR they’d have been turfed before sunrise.

As headlines go, Man Shot in Montreal North would be one you’d keep made up in metal slugs back in the day. A little more detail from TVA and from La Presse.
