It’s not every day I’ll link to a J-F Lisée column with approval, but he’s dead on target with this piece about the REM.

A report is in on city metrics. This piece has a summary of the interesting statistics, and it’s curious how expensive our roads are. On the other side of the coin: low crime, and gradually improving reduction of trash output and enlargement of park space.

After a temporary deal last summer, port workers are again threatening to strike.
Also threatening to strike are school support workers in Montreal and surrounding areas.

It sounds like a plot from a movie, but the woman who was convicted of killing an actor’s lover at their house in Longueuil in 1981 may soon be out of prison, although not quite – as the headline suggests – completely freed.
It’s a very odd story, a young woman agreeing to carry out a hit because her druggy boyfriend couldn’t do it, later claiming she showed up at the house to offer her escort services to a couple of gay men. Odder still is that, to this day, nobody knows who originally contracted for the killing or why.

More proof that we need to replace the police with groups who can deal with specific issues.
