La Presse says there are 9206 new cases of Covid as of Saturday, and has some other stats, but with Santé Québec not giving out new numbers, I can’t see where they’re getting these.

Media are starting their looks back at 2021.
Eater Montreal tallies the top neighbourhoods of epicurean interest.
Changes in the east end and north end were reviewed by Metro. The northeastern side of the city got a lot of media attention for shootings this year as well.
CF Montreal had a year of ups and downs and the Canadiens ended the year with the worst record in team history.
Updating to add: Le Devoir has a sheaf of pieces on their personalities of the year.

The numbers are posted to the government’s open data portal as usual. It’s just that Santé Québec isn’t making an official release.

I assume the numbers are lower because testing capacity was reduced on Christmas Eve, but the decline in hospitalizations is encouraging. Let’s see if the trend holds or if it was just some pre-holiday fluke.

The positive cases tally is artificially low because people are actively discouraged to get tested.
Hospitalizations are down because it’s a tradition to discharge anyone from hospitals at Xmas who is remotely capable of getting by with home care by family members. (Some of them will be re-admitted next week.) Even in ‘normal’ times hospitals are minimally staffed during Christmas, because almost every healthcare worker prefers to be with their family. My sister-in-law and her husband are specialists *and* Jewish and they make their colleagues very happy by working in the ER every Xmas. This year even more so since many HCWs are near or past their breaking point, as frankly they are as well.
(Yet another reason to hire staff from many different faiths, Loi 21 be damned).
Last year we had a dip in Covid hospitalizations during Xmas, and a huge spike afterwards. I’m sure this trend will repeat itself this year, despite vaccinations. Loads of people followed the rules and had gatherings of 10 vaccinated people, despite omicron not caring much about vaccines or arbitrary rules.
