Bus lanes coming around town
Four new bus lanes are being created in various parts of town.
Meantime, the lowest bid for extending the SRB Pie-IX from Pierre‑de‑Coubertin down to Notre‑Dame is coming in at almost twice the allotted budget.

Anyone know why they didn’t go with a tram for this?

This a bit OT but does anyone know what’s up with the new daily parking scheme in the Plateau borough? I got the flyer in my mailbox yesterday. It seems to me that letting tourists use resident parking spots is a big win for AirBnB owners. And another step towards turning our neighborhoods into theme parks.

@Peter This has been around for a few months already. AirBnB… well at least the legal ones that rent out full apartments are really limited to St-Denis, St-Laurent and a few other main streets. Also, if you find that there isn’t enough resident only parking, just call the city… a few complaints and voila, they move the signs and make more. They will continue to do this until the point at which every resident is going to need a street permit.

Well, I hope that’s not it. I am in favour of the idea simply because when family visits or even contractors, it makes it easier to find legal parking.

@Ephram, I’m sure they’ll put the tram in once they’ve finished the tram on Parc and Côte-des-Neiges.
@Peter, non residents have been able to park in resident spots for a long time, you just needed to buy a sticker at the dep, scratch off the dates, and put it in your window. Now you have to pay at the machines.

@Ephraim Thanks for the info, I didn’t realize this was already active. RE AirBnB I strongly suspect it’s still very easy to flout the rules. I noticed several full-time AirBnb’s near my apartment where the CITQ number doesn’t turn up on the bonjourquebec.com search. I wrote the CITQ and they told me having a publically searchable number is optional.

@Peter – Yes, it is optional… but report it to Revenu Quebec. They are supposed to be in charge of looking for the illegals. (My complaints about them not doing their job, notwithstanding)
@CE – I’m more likely to be hit by a Penny Farthing being ridden by Jeff Bezos’s himself than the tramway will be built on Parc Avenue. And yes, those scratch off cards were annoying. Some countries used to have that kind of thing instead of parking meters, except you pull tab the time and date. You put a card up for each hour of parking that you needed. Simple, but annoying as hell. The Plateau’s old system, you had to stick it on the street side in the window… with the new system, you put it on the dash on the street side. But at least you can get it at any meter. We used to try to pick up a few and Pharmaprix would have 2 in stock at a time. It was annoying if you needed for a few days in a row.
