Nuns’ Island’s Domaine Saint-Paul is full of sick ash trees. There’s a debate there whether to cut them all down at once, or take them down gradually so that the area doesn’t turn into a swamp overnight.

On Tout le monde en parle Sunday evening, Mayor Plante challenged Quebec to create a national plan to tackle poverty. Cities and towns can’t solve it with a patchwork of smaller projects, so Quebec should step in.
Quebec won’t step in. Poverty doesn’t interest Quebec much. Poor people don’t pay much in tax.

Neither do rich people.

Not the really rich, but the prosperous middle class do.

I don’t think it’s that the poor don’t pay much tax. It’s more that the priorities at the provincial level are those that are best for the political party (whichever one is in control). These are votes, donations to the party’s coffers to pay for methods of manipulating people to vote for the party, and lobbying that enriches particular MNAs from the party. Of these, the poor only offer votes, and relative to people with more income/wealth, they tend as a group to vote less.

A man was stabbed in a hospital room at the CHUM early Tuesday apparently by another patient sharing his room.
I thought part of the point of the new hospitals was that people would have single rooms and not have to share with strangers. Or was that just the MUHC?

Maybe the ER rooms aren’t private. I know at the Jewish (although not the Glen) the newer ER wing has 2 beds per ER room. I’m not sure about the ER rooms at the Glen though.
