Labour actions to affect STM next week
STM services are likely to be limited by labour actions by the maintenance workers’ union next week, although they have agreed to resume work over Grand Prix weekend. Details of operating hours and reductions are in the items.

So disruptions the Grand Prix would been a threat to “la santé ou la sécurité de la population ne soit pas mise en danger” ????
c’est n’importe quoi leur affaire.

Darn, I’d planned to see Fringe festival shows during the strike, and living in the West Island, where it takes a while to get into town, I don’t know if I can make that work now.

Well my colleagues that have 6/6:30am shifts will have to find another way to work or get their pay docked. It’s good that the city prioritizes who’s really important: racing fans and aspirational, wannabe Euro trash.

Most 8-hour shifts in health care that offer 24/7 coverage (hospitals) start at 7.15 / 15.15 / 23.15 while those doing 12h start at 7.15 or 19.15. Unless one lives close to their site of employment, that person will likely be late for an evening (15.15) shift and guaranteed to be late for a night (23.15). Since each shift hands over their duties to the next shift (report/pager/phone) before leaving, this will result in some unhappy faces in our sites. Essential services indeed.

The school year isn’t quite over yet either. There are still students who rely on public transport to finish their classes and take their final exams.

I remember the last STM strike, I was a student at McGill. It was difficult to try to fit my life around the limited transport during the strike.
