Manon Massé plans to leave politics at the end of the current Quebec term in 2026.

Pretty impressive how Nadeau-Dubois killed QS.

Massé hasn’t been well, so her departure can’t be called leaving a sinking ship.

CBC compares the promises of the five leading mayoral hopefuls.

  • Kate 14:45 on 2025-10-20 Permalink | Reply

Last mayoral election, 38% of eligible voters cast ballots, a decline from a still not very impressive 42% four years previously.

It seems unlikely we’ll see a sudden surge of interest this time, with a lacklustre campaign combined with the delay in getting voter cards out.

Predict the voter turnout on November 2

    • 31-35% (54%, 34 Votes)
    • 25-30% (22%, 14 Votes)
    • 36-40% (21%, 13 Votes)
    • 41-45% (2%, 1 Votes)
    • 46+% (2%, 1 Votes)

    Total Voters: 63

A bit late now but I wonder if some of the responses are from spam bots. Kate, do you have an idea of the number of humans who visit your site regularly?

    • Kate 08:55 on 2025-10-21 Permalink

Not exactly, but a total of 52 votes Tuesday morning doesn’t seem excessive.

      – or 63 votes before I closed the poll. That tallies with my impression of human interactions here.

In the wake of the Louvre heist on the weekend in which so many historic jewels were taken, the Journal looks back to the 1972 robbery of the Museum of Fine Arts in which paintings and jewellery were also made off with, never to be found.

Tuesday, 24Hres asks whether a heist like the Louvre’s could happen in Quebec. It’s always possible, but we don’t have anything here like the old crown jewels of France.

The Deux-Montagnes REM branch has just been announced to open on November 17.

Is anyone taking bets on when the first breakdown will be?

    • Bert 14:22 on 2025-10-21 Permalink

I will put my money on, on or before November 17.

Oka beach, now accessible by bicycle. (Oka beach is 15km from the Deux-Montagnes REM station, separated bike path — much of it through forest — the whole way!) Noice!

    • DeWolf 15:35 on 2025-10-21 Permalink

@Blork I hadn’t even thought about that. Pretty amazing! Driving to Oka Beach is a nightmare on the weekends but being able to cycle there without making a huge day of it would be wonderful.

When the Deux Montagnes train was running, I would go to Oka once a summer by bike. It was easy to take a bike on the train and the bike path wasn’t far from the station. Once you got on the path, it was smooth sailing right to the park. No waiting in traffic, no paying for parking. Hopefully it will be as easy to take bikes on the REM as it was on the Exo train.

A couple years ago, I took the Exo out to Vaudreuil with my bike and took the ferry across the river, had lunch in Oka and stayed the night at the park. It was a very nice trip although not as easy to navigate as the Deux Montagnes route.

Le Devoir goes all out Monday interviewing Soraya Martinez Ferrada and dissecting her ideas so it was refreshing to turn to Métro and read Olivier Robichaud’s opinion that Ensemble offers few details on its promises – but he’s not too impressed with Projet’s lack of imagination either.

The city is short of people to work on election day.

    • jeather 11:46 on 2025-10-20 Permalink

Some of them pay as little as 16.50 an hour, which is probably not terribly appealing.

    • Chris 12:40 on 2025-10-20 Permalink

How do you mean jeather? It’s one day of work. If you’ve no job, then 1 day of work is some extra cash. Sounds appealing to me. In fact I’ve passed on the link to a few unemployed friends.

    • jeather 13:35 on 2025-10-20 Permalink

If you’re unemployed, it’s better than nothing, but it’s not great if you have any other options. It is nice that all the training is online now though.

    • Kate 13:42 on 2025-10-20 Permalink

We used to get paid for attending a training session, though…

    • Josh 15:51 on 2025-10-20 Permalink

Online training doesn’t necessarily mean unpaid training, does it?

    • Kate 16:12 on 2025-10-20 Permalink

I will post about it if I get a positive response to my application.
