Est Média Montréal asks the portentous question Les Whippets sont-ils bien nés à Hochelaga-Maisonneuve? and goes into their history as a product of the Viau cookie company, as well as the importance of the cookie factory in that end of town – part of which is still called Viauville. But the Whippet is a version of a worldwide style of biscuit, as we discussed here a few years ago and as described in Wikipedia’s article on chocolate-coated marshmallow treats. So it wasn’t original to the Viau factory, but they produced the local variant for a hundred years.

I ate Viau’s Village cookies all through my childhood. They soaked up milk perfectly.

There was a demo Saturday in favour of the U.S. strikes on Iran (although the Gazette needs to wake up and change their statement that Iran is denying Khamenei’s death, which was out of date Saturday night).
Only CityNews notes the competing rallies between those who welcome the U.S. strike, and those who condemn a war.

The state of Quebec politics was, as always, a theme this week: PSPP suspended between referendum and election; Bernard Drainville’s low ratings; the PQ coping with the looming referendum and the CAQ with the looming deficit and the claim that a referendum promise is already damaging Quebec’s economy. The PQ win in the Chicoutimi byelection was a premise for a couple of drawings.
Godin’s groundhog was dealing with resentment over his promise of an early spring.
The Iran situation was pictured by Côté, although the end of the week he painted a target on a mullah’s head – presciently, as it turned out. Afghanistan’s new law permitting domestic violence was on Godin’s mind, while Mark Carney’s trip to India evoked a satirical memory for Chapleau, although I doubt the notorious Trudeau costume even crossed Carney’s mind.

Interesting prompts for your ai selfie this week. I realize it’s an unintended emergent property but it reminds me a bit of Kate Greenaway, too.
