A demonstration held downtown Saturday appealed to the prime minister not to involve Canada in any way in the war of the US and Israel vs Iran.

The government has stated repeatedly and unequivocally that Canada will not be participating in this war. The Minister of Defense said “Canada has not participated and Canada will not be participating.” The Prime Minister said “Canada is not participating in the United States and Israeli offensive and will never participate in it.”

This was a protest against Israel and the US, in the rubric of radical anti-Israel, anti-US, “anti-imperialist”, etc. agitprop, posing as an anti-war protest, as seen in the flags and the list of groups who organized it.

Politicians aren’t exactly known to stick to their word. They’re under tons of pressure from private interest groups – those meetings and phone calls just aren’t publicized – so it’s important that regular folks apply some heat as well.

bob, Globe and Mail headline: Canada, Japan, European allies willing to use ‘appropriate efforts’ to reopen Strait of Hormuz. That wouldn’t be the act of a neutral force.

The MUHC has a long-term plan to move the Montreal Neuro to the Glen site, offering a litany of reasons why the existing, castellar building on the mountain is too old, too cramped and too decrepit, but not spelling out whether they want another new building put up on the Glen site, if there’s even room. A Google aerial view shows that the space on the Montreal side of the site is filled up.

What’s the deal with the empty field on the east side of the hospital? Does belong to them?

My wife was scheduled a late-evening appointment on Halloween at the Neuro, and with the dark under-construction hallways and old school fluorescent lights it was a really creepy experience. Half expected to see a “mad scientist” character pop out of a doorway.

The MUHC is built up to a line which is the border between Montreal and Westmount in that area.

That field was supposedly reserved for the neuro according to rumors. I’m sure they could probably use the buildings next to either side of Vendome metro or build up. The Chest was integrated into the Vic building and that used to be an entire building on St. Urbain. Haven’t been to the neuro in years, but yeah it’s like a set of a hospital horror movie according to the guys I know still working there.

Some thoughts on constructing 200,000 new housing units over 20 years in greater Montreal, of which 20% should be social housing.

I love how for the agglo in the 10 years prior to the last census there were 80,000 units constructed, and yet the goal is just 50,000 units in 20 years. Everyone agrees we’re in a housing crisis and yet our goals are less than a third of the rate we’ve already done! I guess that’s one way to guarantee success.

The suburbs built fewer units per capita but are no slouches either, according to Statscan. But what we need is accelerating that growth, not cutting it.

The mayor is creating two new teams of blue collar workers to work on potholes, buying two new pothole filling machines, and plans to have 67 km of road repaved this summer. Twenty‑four new workers are being hired for this plan.

SMF promised to cut numbers of staff, and she promised not to have any cones out this summer, too.

It’s fun to watch a new administration come to the realization that certain “excesses” that they used to loudly criticize in the previous administration had valid reasons for existing.
