Fire service retires own buses
Montreal’s fire service used to have three buses it could call on to shelter fire victims, but the last one is being retired because of the apparent expense of maintaining them. From now on, only STM buses will be sent if there’s a need to protect people unhoused by fire.

I mean, if they didn’t add any extra amenities and they were pretty generic school bus type vehicles, I don’t see why you woudn’t work with the STM instead. Seems more efficient.

I would’ve expected some amenities (toilet? more comfortable seating? coffee machine? carriers for small animals?) but I don’t know whether those were ever included.

Kate, it’s a red painted school bus… not a Winnebago. http://ville.montreal.qc.ca/sim/en/file/153

I realize that, Ephraim, but it could have been retrofitted with features to make it more welcoming. I don’t know. I’m lucky enough not to ever have had to enter the thing.

There were toilets and a sink on the SIM bus.
