The city is preparing to welcome refugees from Ukraine as the federal government makes it easier for people from that country to get a travel visa. Individuals are also intending to offer space to refugees although I wonder whether they’re ready for the possible consequences of bringing shell-shocked strangers into their home.

Ensemble is carping about preparing for the refugees but it’s clear the city is already doing this.

Projet and Ensemble each spent about $1.3 million in last fall’s election campaign. More details in the item.

In view of the European war, items like shots fired in St‑Michel with no victims feel like they’re of negligible interest.

La Presse is keen on the new HEC building to open this fall for classes. The photo angles are weird because the building’s on narrow La Gauchetière just off Beaver Hall Hill, wedged in behind St Patrick’s church.

Is that what went up on the ruins of St Brigid’s?

            Yes.

That’s a big building, I hope St. Patrick’s still gets sun in through its rose window.

If that land belonged to the church, they should have the cash to install some kind of LED panel in there, about 3000K, and put it on a timer.

I wonder if they’ll get a good ROI because most classes and jobs are online now.

@Uatu: Aren’t most universities back to in-person classes now? And less than 1/3 of employed people worked from home in 2021.
