This is not the first time it’s been reported that community groups with space in the William Hingston centre in Park Ex will have to close or move because the CSSDM wants to renovate the sprawling concrete building. (Note to CTV: the name of the local councillor is not Mary Eros.)

This was first reported in June 2022 and then in December that year, but it seems like the evictions are now about to happen.

This soundbite is so typical of Ensemble. Yes, it would be beneficial to Park Ex if a new site could be found for community groups – but just saying so is no help. What would you propose instead, Mary Deros? You’re part of the borough council, you can make suggestions. Are there other sites you’d propose? No? But if you can’t pull a community centre out of your hat, how do you think Projet can do it?

If you’re on the blog site, you can see in the sidebar that we’re teetering on the brink of 20,000 Covid deaths in Quebec. The fact isn’t mentioned in this piece on current recommendations for Covid vaccination. Short version: unless you’re very old or immunocompromised, you’re not mentioned.

Is anyone else eligible? I don’t even know what the rules are now.

      • Kate 20:37 on 2024-03-21 Permalink

This page lists the eligibilities. I don’t know how we find out whether we’ve had a vaccination for the the XBB.1.5 variant.

You open the VaxiCode app (it still works!) and If you were vaccinated after August 2023 it should say

        Moderna SpikeVax XBB.1.5 COVID-19

“Bien que les avantages soient moins importants pour elles, les personnes non ciblées âgées de 6 mois et plus pourraient aussi recevoir la dose du printemps 2024 si elles le demandent.”

        Ah ok good to know.

When I got my polio re-up after moving to Québec, they gave me a blue carnet de vaccination like the old bank transaction books. When, where and which vaccation is recorded in the book. (My most recent entry is “Moderna-Spikevax XBB.1.5 0,5mL IM 15 décembre 2023”) I bring it with me every time I get a shot (annual grippe or COVID). The book looks official, but repeatedly I’m told by the medtech serving me I’m the only person who’s brought their book in for recording the procedure.

For children, you use them every time for all their scheduled vaccinations. Covid vaccinations and flu shots are not part of that regular schedule, so I guess that’s why they don’t ask for them for adults for those.

      • Kate 21:48 on 2024-03-24 Permalink

mare, thanks for reminding me of the app. I still have it, and it’s up to date.

CNESST reports acquired by La Presse indicate that the work climate in the huge STM Legendre bus garage is so bad that police have been called when fights have broken out. Both management and the union are aware of the scale of the acrimony, and agree that it has to be fixed – but there’s not much here about the root causes. The union guy says “Parfois, des petites situations s’accumulent et deviennent de plus gros évènements” which may or may not be an evasion – but it’s more than they got from management.

Also, I’m puzzled about “discussions in different languages” and wonder whether this could be more of the same problem that exists in some city works garages, i.e. racism against Black workers, who may be speaking Kréyol among themselves.

Denis Bégin, under suspicion of starting the fatal fire on Place Youville a year ago, has pleaded guilty to escaping prison in 2019 and been sentenced to 18 more months behind bars. He hasn’t yet faced charges over the fire.

Migration into Montreal from the rest of Quebec has slowed, especially among young adults.

But all inter‑regional movements have slowed down. Given the difficulty of finding affordable new places to live, it doesn’t surprise me that people aren’t moving around as much as they used to.

TVA has a list of evil landlord tactics seen around town.

Does anyone else think this looks like a how-to for any unscrupulous landlords to follow, if they have not already figured out these tactics?

            • Ian 19:36 on 2024-03-22 Permalink

It’s ok they already have Facebook groups where they not only share scumbag tactics but gloat over their efficacy.

And sign postage on the left says Rose-Ouelette … So Rue Rose-Ouellete corner of 6th avenue looks like a good contender? ( I really know nothing about that ‘hood, I’m just in a boring meeting at work 🙂 )

Like azrhey, I’ve never become familiar with that part of town. I almost took it for some side street in Westmount.

The Olympic tower looming in the background is the key.

            • azrhey 15:06 on 2024-03-21 Permalink

Yes! Same here, it was the presence of the Olympic Tower at that angle that got me wondering, I wasn’t expecting it.

            • Kate 18:55 on 2024-03-21 Permalink

I’m embarrassed to admit I didn’t spot the tower.

Brian Mulroney will lie in state repose at St Patrick’s on Thursday and Friday, then the funeral is on Saturday at Notre‑Dame. The TVA link will have live video as of 10 am. CityNews has info about street closures Saturday for the procession from one church to the other for the funeral.

CBC has photos from inside St Patrick’s, showing various dignitaries making their appearance.

Technically he’s lying “in repose,” as “lying in state” means the coffin is in a government building.

                Corrected above.
