Study finds the city needs more bike paths
A study from McGill claims that the city could double its number of bike paths, since the existing paths only take up a tiny proportion of road space. On the other hand, rising blood pressure among some residents might cause a crisis in the ERs.
A site called peopleforbikes gives Montreal a good rating which Mayor Plante tweets is the best in North America.

The study notes that 98% of road space in Montreal is reserved for cars. But the modal share for cycling across the whole city is 5%, and on the Plateau it’s 22%.

Oh and interestingly — the study is based on data from the 2018 Quebec mobility survey, not the 2023 survey that was recently released. So the modal share of cyclists is actually much higher than that the McGill research is based on.

Even the Saint Denis REV opened in 2020, so the numbers start to look a little outdated.
