A third dome for Marché Bonsecours
The Centre d’histoire shows us the fire that destroyed the dome of Marché Bonsecours in 1976 and its replacement in 1977. But the 1976 fire was not the first time the market building lost its dome – there was also a fire in 1948 and the building had no dome between that year and 1965. The item also admits that the dome tower serves no practical purpose.

I’ve often thought that things like that are best seen as follies, serving the exact same purpose as the fake ruins built in the grounds of noble houses — providing charm and distinction to a landscape.
