Incidents categorized as hate crimes were up in Montreal in 2020 and the tendency has continued through the first half of this year. Asians, Jews, Black folks – all three groups have seen an increase in racially motivated crimes.

I’d like to know if this is because of there being less tolerance and more awareness. Or if it really is an increase.
My guess would be splitting out the anti-Semitic figures could give a baseline from which to hypothesize.

Bill – To answer the question… it’s a real increase and it’s open and blatant because some idiot made it okay to be overtly racist. I mean a guy walked around a park in Toronto a few days ago with a black swastika on his chest. Who in Canada would have thought that was okay 5 years ago? I recently saw a house in St-Laurent for sale with anti-semitic graffiti on the house and wondered… is this why they are moving? And I passed by the bakery in St-Laurent yesterday that was firebombed.
