Stories of police misconduct
Two stories today about police misconduct
More than nine years after Didier Berry was beaten up during an arrest, a judge ordered the city and the three individual cops to come across with a total of $115,000. Radio‑Canada doesn’t spell out that Berry is Black, but there’s a photo of him in this La Presse story from 2013.
In an incident in 2019, a woman from South Asia, a law student, was roughly arrested, verbally abused by police and charged with obstructing police and assaulting an officer, of which she was acquitted last month. She’s suing the city and the police for various kinds of damages, but if Mr. Berry’s case is anything to go by, it could take time.
