REM de l’Est from different angles
Somehow it seems typical that CTV has a story titled A new solution for the REM and the Gazette likewise, Proposed REM de l’Est to be rerouted along existing rail corridor. Only the CBC gets into how local folks don’t like this “solution” either.
No wonder right-wingers want to clamp down on the CBC, which is hardly critical enough of our politics, but at least makes intermittent efforts to take notice of things.

Few ask questions about whether this arrangement makes any sense at all.

CTV and Gazette and cjad= shills for sale. They did the same for the super hospital and now we’re all paying for its short sighted design in this pandemic. We’ll see how the rem compares when it’s finished.

So this chap already lives right next to the Souligny expressway and that apparently poses no nuisance to his poor children whatsoever. Because as we know cars make no noise and spew absolutely no pollution. But electric trains, you see, are going to be a complete nightmare. In Vancouver, people living near the SkyTrain haven’t slept in decades. Interesting to note that he was against the REM long before it was moved to the Souligny rail corridor.
Montrealers got spoiled by the construction of the metro back when the city truly was a metropolis, and now they think that all rapid transit has to be underground all the time, regardless of cost and feasibility.

Thomas. No, that’s not right. The Souligny expressway is only to the west of Autoroute 25. The new route of the REM is on the section east of Autoroute 25. Also, the fellow who worries about his kids’ sleep is not the same guy who was also against the REM on Sherbrooke (given his sign with the friendly eyed cars and evil eyed trains, it’s entirely possible that that guy is in fact a car-owning crank who hates public transit). You can tell they’re not the same individual because they have different names. As far as SkyTrain, I knew people who lived next to it. It’s louder than you might think and tends to squeal in the curves. The underground business is interesting because the REM is apparently quite willing to tunnel under Nouveau-Rosemont and Saint-Leonard, so why not do the same for these people?
