Soccer team revises logo
Montreal’s professional soccer team has partly heeded the fans, redesigning its logo to evoke the old Impact logo, but stubbornly sticking to the name CF Montréal.
Here’s the evolution of the club’s previous logos:

My first association when I see CF is Cystic Fibrosis. Not very good for a sportsball club.

Why is this news?

I like neither the name nor the logo.
As to the name C.F., the word “soccer” has currency in North America and it has a long pedigree. It comes from the sport’s official name: association football (as opposed to other forms). Soccer is derived from aSOCiation. Calling it “club de foot” sounds like an attempt at authenticity by adopting a European affectation. At least it’s better than the “Impact”.
As to the logo, I’ve thought the colours and themes were ugly since 1993 and the fleur-de-lys-only nod does not reflect Montreal. They should have taken a look at the city’s flag for inspiration.

Bill, it’s a major league team, so that the evolution of its name and logo is always covered – this story is mentioned in most of our media this weekend.
Also, which some readers may know, your blogger here is a graphic designer by trade, meaning that the design of locally important logos piques her interest more than it might to some.
MTLer, I can’t see them integrating the rose, thistle, shamrock or pine tree in this logo, leaving only the fleur‑de‑lys as an option.
