U.S. considers sanctions over Bill 96
The United States is said to be considering trade sanctions over Bill 96, and Bloc leader Yves Blanchet is after a legal opinion on the issue. But before you imagine the U.S. is doing something noble to uphold freedom, the only freedom involved is the American freedom to sell stuff here, even if it only has English labels.
Another language law story at the moment: a group called Droits Collectifs Québec is challenging judge Dennis Galiatsatos’s ruling that a provision in Bill 96 would delay justice in cases being heard in English. Their position is that the judge had no right to interfere.

Someone tell the USA that they aren’t allowed to because it’s Quebec -bashing! Lol

As I understand it, the labelling thing is a lesser concern than the trademark thing. Whether additional signage (etc) constitutes an “impediment” is the crux here but I suspect as in most things, we simply won’t have certain brands and stores in Quebec.

Quebec’s new law violates trademark laws, if I remember correctly
