Schmegelsky and McLeod still at large
Another big non-local story is the two young B.C. guys, apparently little Nazis and murderers, still on the run in northern Manitoba. I mostly noticed this because the local radio news guy pronounced McLeod as “McClod”, appropriately. (The same news guy had a lot of trouble with “Memphremagog” in another report, but that’s almost forgivable.)
Update: this newscaster was on an English-language station.

Everybody I’ve ever known with the last name McLeod pronounced it “McCloud”. But I can’t think of anyone in Quebec with that surname.

Peter Macleod is relatively Quebec-famous, and it’s the same pronunciation.

Highlander was on TVA probably once a summer in the 80’s and 90’s, that’s also why 😉

Maybe if they put the accent on the last syllable like “blackBURN” or “at-waTER” it will make more sense to them.
