Empress façade may be preserved
The La Presse headline says “Le théâtre Empress de NDG sera en partie sauvé” but the story is not so hopeful. The building will be demolished, but the Ancient Egyptian façade may be saved for use on a new building.

I hope “saving” the façade doesn’t end up being like what was done on St Laurent between Ste Catherine and René-Lévesque. If they plan any treatment even half as bad, I say send the whole thing to the landfill.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that the facade isn’t salvageable what with all the water and frost damage through the years.

Given that the façade was imitation ancient Egyptian originally, maybe something could be done in the same spirit.
