Devimco, developer of the old Children’s Hospital site, was asking a cool million yearly for a school to be part of the condo site, over a 45-year lease.
Valérie Plante seems to think the school project is still snatchable from the jaws of greed.

I’m in the metro. Since I boarded there have been several rounds of announcements from the recorded female voice warning of slowdowns on various lines because of blocked doors, followed by “Le service est rétabli sur la ligne orange. Merci de votre compréhension.”
The STM used to be criticized for not readily giving out information on metro stoppages but they may have tipped over too far in the other direction. Most of these tiny pauses are undetectable to passengers and will make no difference to their day.
Luc Ferrandez has proposed a toll for car access to Mount Royal. He wrote the idea up in English in a long Facebook post that should be readable even if you’re not logged in there.
CBC had a couple of drivers test whether the Camillien-Houde is really a shortcut, which seems to me to miss the point. I don’t drive, but if I did, and Mount Royal was in the way, I’d probably enjoy driving across it because it’s nice, not because it’s supposedly faster.
A coroner’s report says a hundred people died in fires over the last decade because they didn’t have a working smoke detector. Jacques Ramsay proposes making them mandatory.
If they’re going to be mandatory, they’ve got to be smarter. I haven’t yet found one that doesn’t go nuts when I do something like boil water for pasta, which gets old pretty fast.
Various notes on weekend driving. Short version: don’t.
(CBC promises headaches.)
