Is it fair to say the new Bonaventure is a failure? Or is it just that, no matter how well you build roads, there will always be too much traffic?

An older woman strayed outside an east-end seniors’ residence during an early-morning alarm Sunday and died of hypothermia when she couldn’t get back inside. She was Gilles Duceppe’s mother. TVA link may play noisy ad video.
Update: Not surprisingly, a coroner will investigate. I’m sure they would anyway, but the identity of the victim means more media attention to this story in general.

Wow, how awful. And that was a luxury residence with 3x the staff on duty as necessary by law but nobody noticed her missing. I guess they’ll be installing door buzzers by those one way locks now.

You’d think there would have to be a head count after an aborted alarm scenario like that. Well, there will be now.

Most of Monday morning’s news is from Sunday’s snowstorm. There was a collision between a car and a snow removal truck in Anjou; SUV drivers helped haul a city bus up the slope of Pie‑IX to Sherbrooke Street; some cabbies were out in the storm Sunday; a man who lives way up Ridgewood gets weather effects from wind chill; weather continues Monday and some off‑island schools are closed, but CBC radio confirms that, so far, all Montreal schools are open.

The article answers its own question.
Much of the congestion is due to the many construction projects that have started in that area, all of whom benifit immensely from the removal of the highway. It’ll probably get a bit better after.
Also yeah. Rush hour is always going to Suck, unless you massively over build, which comes with the many compromises we are familiar with.
Honestly it’s bigger than it should have been as it is, outside peak hours that area is still quite empty, yet 7 lanes of traffic make the park, as well as people walking through, much less attractive.
Eventually adding a north south bike lane all the way up university is probably the right way to go.
