The big campaign news Monday night is that a Québec solidaire candidate was caught on video removing a Parti québécois flyer from a mailbox and replacing it with her own. Marie‑Ève Rancourt, a lawyer running in east‑end Camille‑Laurin riding (which was called Bourget till recently), has withdrawn from the race.

Too bad for anyone who voted QS or planned to vote QS in that riding. Poll workers will have to customize the ballots by hand, too.

“The percentage of Quebec voters who have cast an early ballot has almost doubled compared with the last election…

We do believe more people participating means people are looking for a change.”

A bit of hope I guess, though I still feel pessimistic about the outcome.

Le caïd Raynald Desjardins is out on parole again, having messed it up first time by breaking a restriction against communicating with his old mob pals. But who else would Desjardins want to talk to?

Since I saw no news about the cross going purple through the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth, I assume it didn’t happen? I don’t live within sight of the cross.

She was the head of the wrong religion. Popes only!

That’s what I thought originally too, but in this thread Alex L found two examples of media reports from 1952 when King George VI died, describing the cross being turned purple – and in those days someone had to climb up and change all the bulbs, it wasn’t a question of flipping a switch.

The English had a bit more clout in the Montreal of 1952 I suppose.

And the Société St-Jean-Baptiste, which controlled the cross at the time, must not have been so militant.

We only deny her purple light bulbs for believing in the wrong religion, if we were an Islamic state we could arrest people for expressing condolences. Now that’s militant! 🙂

A man was stabbed in Pointe-aux-Trembles Sunday evening, in a gas station parking lot.

We’ve seen a lot of violent acts committed in parking lots lately.

You can always keep a few dozen bags in your SUV anyways.

qatzelok, do not hassle Meezly, do not hassle anyone here. Do you want to be banned?

Didn’t even realize he was making a dig at me as I don’t even own a bloody car.
But agree it’d be nice to do without smartass comments.

I wasn’t making a dig at anyone in particular. I was using the word “you” that means “on” in French.
As in “On peut toujours apporter des sacs dans son SUV.”

Sorry for the misinterpretation and triggering.

I’ve noticed a lot of stores bringing back kraft paper bags, which is nice as they are recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable. Probably contributes to deforestation but hey, so does toilet paper.

@Ian – I was just on an International flight with WestJet. They have moved to compostable containers for their meals… except that all the garbage on an international flight is incinerated. At least metal trays would be recyclable through incineration. It’s recycling theatre.

Daniel Renaud outlines how crooks used the medicinal cannabis permit system to build a big grow‑op in the east end, and how this is also being done by others.

Now that cannabis is legal, I could make a case that if you have a medicinal cannabis certificate but no skill, space or desire to grow plants yourself – why not outsource it to these nice men with a convenient operation in the east end? But that’s not how the justice system is thinking, although I do not see how the operation described is dangerous to public safety. There was even a cannabis trade show here last week.

A woman and her two children were murdered in Brossard early Sunday, and the apartment set on fire. A man is to appear in court Monday morning.
