City boosts contribution to student housing

The city has tripled its contribution to a student housing project on Papineau in the Plateau and is urging the CAQ government to also chip in.

Meanwhile, a new apartment building owner in the same borough considers evicted tenants collateral damage in their business of buying decrepit properties and refurbishing them to sell at high prices. The city was inveigled into issuing official evictions at short notice because the building was so filthy, as well as unheated. It used to be “neglect to demolish” here but now it’s also “neglect to evict.”
