The site of the old Village des Tanneries, essentially destroyed for the first Turcot and re-destroyed again for the second, was archaeologized recently, and some of the artifacts are on display at the St-Henri library till next month.

There’s nothing like pro sports for manufacturing consent. A group of businessmen would like to see an NBA team here but check out TVA’s headline “Montréal veut attirer une équipe de la NBA.” Even Radio-Canada gets into it with Si la NBA lance un processus d’expansion, Montréal souhaite en faire partie
No, Montreal is not looking for it: a bunch of businessmen can’t constitute themselves as speaking for the entire city. The mayor hasn’t spoken, nor has anyone held a referendum asking us what we think.
Likewise Sportsnet’s Montreal must prove to NBA it has value as an expansion city. Yeah, no. No, we don’t.
Global actually does it right with Montreal group wants NBA to come to the city. See, that word “group” is all it takes not to lie.
Anyway, the NBA isn’t in expansion mode, so it’s all talk. For now.

This isn’t purely local, but I think it’s important: American milk is already on our shelves but some Canadians are determined to buy local, not least because Canada has a ban on growth hormones and the U.S. does not.
Update: Item from Radio-Canada on how to be sure about the origins of food you buy.

We saw a high temperature record from 1958 broken as we reached 26.7° Tuesday.
I saw some folks who, having put on their fall-to-winter garb days before, were still swaddled in puffy coats and scarves. Don’t know how they could stand it.

Update: SPVM cops will be allowed to partake in their off hours so long as they’re sober when they’re on the job.

New trade deal means more hiring at the Port of Montreal. Heil Trump, I guess.

The city has tripled its contribution to a student housing project on Papineau in the Plateau and is urging the CAQ government to also chip in.
Meanwhile, a new apartment building owner in the same borough considers evicted tenants collateral damage in their business of buying decrepit properties and refurbishing them to sell at high prices. The city was inveigled into issuing official evictions at short notice because the building was so filthy, as well as unheated. It used to be “neglect to demolish” here but now it’s also “neglect to evict.”
