Mile End residents gather against speculation

Mile End residents gathered Saturday on Bernard to protest the real estate speculation that’s been hollowing out St-Viateur and Bernard, the main streets of their enclave. Residential properties are also touched, one artist paying $1440 a month (!) was told her new rent would now be $3600.

They have the United Nations on their side. A UN special rapporteur on housing recently suggested this city needs to put the brakes on speculation.
