Asylum seekers on the rise at Trudeau
The number of asylum seekers landing at Trudeau has risen fivefold since 2019. An average of 114 asylum seekers have been processed daily this month. A spokesman says the airport isn’t equipped to process so many people seeking refuge.

Wow. That’s a crazy situation. That works out to about 50K people per year. For years, we had about 200K immigrants and some smaller number of refugees on top of that. The recent Syrian campaign was for a mere 40K Syrian refugees.
Now we are taking 400k immigrants and about 1 million+ visa student stream migrants, and another 50k of these asylum seekers. Despite a very strained housing and rental market and an enormously overburdened health care for citizens, for some reason, we’re adding 1.7 million newcomers. After voters punish the Liberals, I fear they’ll go after the immigrants. We had a real success story around immigrants and integration until now. This whole situation is a powder keg. Yipes.
