Can’t beat a rescued cat story
A cat that slipped into a shipment of auto parts from Nova Scotia ended up in Montreal 1200 km away from its home, where it was identified and will be shipped back to its owner. Nothing like a feelgood cat rescue story for the impending holidays.

I’m always up for a happy cat story. That cat is extra cute.

The CBC reports today, Sunday, that the cat is safely home.
The story didn’t seem quite right, how could someone miss a cat in a parcel? Then later, it was revealed to be tire rims, which are heavy enough that some extra weight wouldn’t be noticed, and enough empty space inside for the cat. So it wasn’t someone wrapping a cat in a box as a Christmas present.

The reporting on that story has been shoddy all around. Some reports say the parcel was shipped to Montreal. Others say it was going to Edmonton but the cat escaped from the box in Montreal. Some reports say the cat escaped while in the truck; others say the cat escaped at the warehouse/sorting facility. Some reports say the box was “mailed” and other reports say it was sent by Purolator (and some reports say both!).
So, while this is just a puff story, shoddy reporting on any story casts a shadow on that reporter/publisher’s reporting on important stories. What are they teaching these kids in J-school these days?
