Rosemont reservoir to finally open
By chance I found a link to the city page on the Rosemont reservoir. This massive reservoir, the biggest in the city, was originally built in the 1960s but never used. Since 2014, digging has been going on around Étienne-Desmarteaux park so that it can be put into service. In 2019, TVA visited the site.
It’s not as if anyone will notice much difference – water will continue to flow – but it makes sense for the city to have backup for something as important as potable water. Plus, they’ve spiffed up the park that sits on top of it.

I walked past this brand new shiny building a few weeks ago and wondered what it was. It has a glass facade and was full of air ducts and industrial machinery. And being right across from Collège de Rosemont I thought it was a geothermal installation of sorts. I remember telling someone about it, and how unfortunate it was that they didn’t need all that heating and cooling right now because the school buildings are empty with all the students studying from home.

The work was going on when I was (briefly) teaching in the Rosemount Technology Centre across the street from the park. It was a huge dig, and I’m sure its completion must be a massive relief to people in the area.
It’s quite a pretty building for what must essentially be a control station.

“Pumping station” would be more accurate. It’s probably packed full of emergency generators too, as the reservoir there doesn’t have the advantage of gravity that the mountain ones have.
