  There’s never any objective view of history, let alone of which parts of any history are important enough to teach in schools.

  The EMSB commissioned three historians to report on the history textbooks assigned for Secondary 3 and 4 and they found the books so bad they suggested removing them from classrooms. La Presse headlines this story Des historiens anglophones….

  If kids are going to stay in Quebec, mightn’t they as well accept the local history/mythology?

  Update: The CAQ thinks so. They have no intention of changing the textbook.

  Here’s an illustration of why I like Valérie Plante: I hadn’t even gotten around to blogging the news about the city facing a shortage of apartment vacancies when I see a piece about how she’s aware of the problem and beginning to work on fixing it.

  Now Carbonleo says there will be “as many as” 6,000 housing units included with the Royalmount mall project and that this will change projected traffic numbers.

  They’re making it up as they go along. Note the weasel-wordiness of “as many as” which promises nothing.

  City councillors say they’d like a raise now that the federal government has changed tax rules to make certain of their expense payments taxable. For the moment, the Plante administration doesn’t plan on giving this raise.

  The city plans to keep tabs on noise levels in the Quartier des spectacles which suggests that the more residential towers go up around the area, the less noise will be tolerated. Soon we may have the quietest entertainment district in the world.

  The coroner’s report came in this week on the drowning death of 14-year-old Blessing Moukoko, who died last February during a swimming lesson organized by his school. His failure to check in after the lesson wasn’t noticed for nearly 40 minutes. His family plans to sue the CSDM and the city because the coroner found the class wasn’t properly supervised, and the lesson was given in a city facility.
